Training Program for Squire/Lady-in-Waiting
The training program will consist of the following phases:
- Education
- Research
- Service
- LEVEL III COMPLETION
- EDUCATION COMPONENT:
The Squire/Lady-in-Waiting will know the answers to the following questions.
- Who were Constantine the Great and Saint Helen?
- What was the Roman Empire like in 312 A.D?
- How did the Byzantine Empire begin?
- Explain the battle and the outcome at the Milvian Bridge.
- RESEARCH COMPONENT:
Develop a five- to ten-page research report on one of the following topics:
- What was the Byzantine Culture and its effect on history?
- What was the relationship of the Byzantine Emperors and the Church?
- How did the institution known as Knighthood develop?
These reports will be presented to the general assembly of Knights/Ladies at one of the black-tie banquets and investiture ceremonies held during the year.
- SERVICE COMPONENT:
Develop a service project to benefit your local community that will involve a minimum of 20 hours of personal service. The project may be at your church, school, local hospital, or a social service agency. In addition, the Squire/Lady-in-Waiting should participate in all local events. This project must be approved by your mentor and the Grand Exarch before you proceed.
- LEVEL III COMPLETION:
- All reports and research must be submitted in writing.
- Once the Squire/Lady-in-Waiting has completed all three components, he/she is entitled to receive the award entitled “The Golden Spur.”
- The recipient’s name is then placed on the roll as a recipient to qualify for a scholarship grant from the Order.
- At the age of 21, the Squire/Lady-in-Waiting may be inducted into the Order as a Knight/Lady with all the privileges and honors of a full Knight/Lady in good standing.
(NOTE: When the Squire/Lady-in-Waiting is invested, they are responsible for all normal fees associated with the investiture ceremony, unless specifically waived by the Grand Exarch.)
